EIT Regional Innovation Scheme expanded to include Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Israel
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has welcomed Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Israel to its EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS). as of 1 January 2025. This programme addresses Europe’s persistent innovation divide by providing tailored support to regions with lower innovation performance.
To be part of it, the countries must be classified as either ‘moderate’ or modest’ innovators in at least one of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) annual reports.
The inclusion of Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EIT RIS strengthens the EIT’s support for the Western Balkans. Additionally, EIT has started to launch different Community Hubs in all Europe to further advanced its place-based support, including in North Macedonia (2023) and Montenegro (2024). As of January this year, a new hub has also been launched in Albania and by the end of 2025 there will be a hub each in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Romania and the Outermost Region of France.
