
EIT Urban Mobility takes part in revamped Expert Group on Urban Mobility
On 25 March 2025, EIT Urban Mobility took part in the 12th plenary meeting of the Expert Group on Urban Mobility (EGUM), held in Brussels. Represented in person by Luana Bidasca, EU Affairs Manager, this was the first meeting under the 2025 Work Programme, where EIT Urban Mobility is contributing to all subgroups.
The meeting gathered key European Commission representatives, with updates spanning Green Deal priorities, urban mobility planning, clean tech policy, and the future of the European automotive sector.

- EU Industrial Action Plan for the Automotive Sector: Anchored in the Clean Industrial Deal, this plan aims to support clean technologies, circularity, and decarbonisation (see more in below article). Upcoming initiatives include:
- A Battery Booster Package (€1.8B via the Innovation Fund).
- A European Connected and Automated Vehicle Alliance, coordinated by DG CONNECT, starting off in 2025.
- Testbeds and regulatory sandboxes launching in 2026, aligning with EIT Urban Mobility’s Manifesto recommendations.
- Green mobility and procurement: Strong emphasis on:
- Boosting demand for zero-emission vehicles.
- Deploying charging infrastructure and improving access to the electricity grid.
- Developing a general procurement framework focused on clean, EU-made products.

- Policy alignment and data tools:
- DG ENV presented the Zero Pollution Dashboard, calling for feedback from cities and stakeholders.
- DG REGIO highlighted that cities are implementing two-thirds of EU legislation, underlining the importance of integrated approaches under the upcoming EU Policy Agenda for cities.
EIT Urban Mobility’s role
The new subgroups for 2025 focus on:
- Urban Nodes (Subgroup 1): Strengthening urban transport nodes to improve connectivity and integration.
- City Access for Businesses (Subgroup 2): Addressing mobility challenges related to freight and business transport.
- Implementation of the European Declaration on Cycling (Subgroup 3): Supporting the expansion of cycling networks and cross-border infrastructure.
EIT Urban Mobility’s involvement will bring expertise in policy recommendations, case studies, and innovation-driven solutions, reinforcing its commitment to shaping European urban mobility policies.
